It was enough for me to be there when they came inside. The guys didn’t know the extent of the injury then—and neither did I. Maybe that was part of why I felt I had to be there with them. I knew this was really bad, and it might be the last time I’d get to be in that locker room as a member of the San Diego Chargers. I was trying to fight back the emotions, but it was hard. I didn’t want my last memory or theirs to be of me walking off the field with my arm out of socket. If anything, I wanted that final moment to be in the locker room with all those guys who had been through so much with me.
