Upper Mustang or the forbidden kingdom of Nepal is one of the spectacular trekking into the Hidden Kingdom of Mustang. Trekking into Upper Mustang is a rare and privileged opportunity to experience the true life of the “highlanders” or the mountain people. Trekking in Mustang gives you a similar feeling of trekking in Tibet or in northern India Ladakh. The place is so isolated as rest of Nepal giving its unique culture, tradition and custom of the people. To keep its tradition alive the place even until recent times had an officially recognised king. The district of Mustang was, until 1950, a separate kingdom within the boundaries of Nepal. The last king, the Raja of Mustang, still has his home in the ancient capital known as Lo Manthang. Upper Mustang was opened to non-Nepali origin some fifteen years ago and the place is still highly restricted so in order to enter into the Mustang valley the trekkers has to get the special permit from the tourism department with a licence guide.
Upper Mustang Trekking is through an almost treeless barren landscape. Strong winds generally blows across the area in the afternoon, generally subsiding at night. Being in the rain shadow of the Himalaya, Mustang has much less rainfall than the rest of Nepal. People of this region share the same culture, tradition and customs matches with the Tibetan lifestyle.
